Brainfart: Unattached

A question people seem to be asking me lately is “Are you married?” to which my best reply is simply a cocked neck and a raised eyebrow. What?! This question amuses me and duly so. I wouldn’t even identify myself as an eligible bachelor, for that would imply my receptiveness to the idea of marriage. Although this shouldn't be confused with never, it definitely isn't in the foreseeable future. Today my reply may be an outward scoff but when does it become inward guilt? It's not unusual nowadays to be well into your 30's and single but no one wants to end up being the old guy at the club or the weird uncle that smells of cheap liquor and hookers. So what is the age that divides those victims of love's misfortunes from those culprits of social ineptitude? How long can you keep blaming cupid for his shoddy marksmanship before contemplating your own inflexible demands? Is it wrong to keep throwing back the cards you're dealt or can you make the most of what you have? Certainly, love is not something you settle for but can anyone be 100% what you want?
